The IAAF Diamond League meeting in Stockholm is over. The women’s javelin event was the last throwing competition taken place. It was a very special night for the strong women. In the end, the throwers were really close together missing out on the better place by only a few centimeters. Barbora Spotakova won the competition with 65.66m, which is a new season best.
The 12th Diamond League competition that was held at the historical Stockholm Olympic Stadium, is the leading track and field meeting and the largest annual sporting event in Sweden, with athletes coming all over the world to compete in the biggest athletics league in the world.
There were many very close competitions with previous winners not getting in the top spot, as well as new faces showing there more competitive side, the Stockholm Diamond League event was not one to miss.
Spotakova opened the competition with 64.62m which was already enough to win the competition. But she produced an even better throw in her 3rd attempt. She moved the implement to 65.66m, which was also a new season best. There is probably more to expect from Spotakova who is coached by the world record (98.78m) holder Jan Zelezny
Behind the Czech, the South African thrower Sunette Viljoen placed 2nd with 64.03m taking silver. The German Linda Stahl threw only one centimeter less, (64.02m) to become 3rd. It was a very close competition overall. Liz Gleadle palced 4th with 63.73m, followed by Madara Palameika 61.76m.
