Sports has for the longest time been an interesting field for scientists to explore, and new and valueable information are published in journals every week. Not too often does the throwing events get their share of the attention though, and hopefully we can do something about this here at throwholics. In an attempt to reveal new and exciting insights into the throwing events, we hope you could take the time fill in the questionaire in the Excel file that is attached to this post. We all know and love the correlations between results in different training exercises and throwing distances presented in Transfer of Training by Bondarchuk, yet, we think that we can and should try to extend the analysis beyond this.
Examples of questions an analysis will be able to give insights into is how the effect of improving different training exercises such as the squat or bench press will change as athletes get stronger… this would give indications to answering the question of how strong is strong enough for the throwing events.
Another interesting question is how the effect of increasing strength affects the throwing distances for different ages, does an increase from 150 to 170kg bench press grant the same improvements for men in discus regardless of their age, or is it different for 18 year olds and 25 year olds. While many may have an experience based opinion on such questions, little or no known scientific research has been made into the topics.
But if you can help us with the data, we can provide the answers.
The Questionaire attached to this post comes in the form of an Excel sheet. There is one sheet for each throwing event, and one for each gender. So you choose the sheet with your event, for example, javelin female or hammer men. Your job is to fill in the white areas, leave the blue as they are as they will be used for analytical purposes. If you dont have results in some of the events, just leave them blank. Because of statistical considerations we are only looking for results with the senior equipment in this survey. You will be asked to provide data for a 5-year period. If you are no longer active, that is not a problem, just fill in the data for any 5-year period of your active carrier.. If this is 1985-1989 or 2000-2004, is up to you. In the case you dont have data for a 5-year period, just fill in what you got. Everything is a great help to make this happen!
We truly hope you can take the time to kindly help us with our Knowledge Project.
And for anyone sharing this post and making their throwing-friends participate, you are doing an awesome contribution to the throwing community.
