Polish discus thrower Piotr Malachowski won the competition in Turnov with 64.59m, followed by Martin Wierig 64.51m and Gerd Kanter 63.14m. The results already show that the competition lacked of good conditions.
The qualification standard of 65m for the upcoming World Championships in Beijing is still not reached by any of the throwers who competed in Turnov. Piotr Malachowski and Martin Wierig are only centimeters away to get the stanard. Wierig threw twice 64.76m in Wiesbaden and one week later in Halle.
As already mentioned in the previous article, Robert Urbanek and Piotr Malachowski just flew in from Shanghai, China and both did not expect any big results.
The weather forecast predicted already bad conditions to throw in. And as it turned out the conditions were as good as we all hope for. Until the 5th round there was not even sun to see. Most of the throwers’s best throw was during the last round.
