The women discus throw event is especially interesting from a German perspective. Nadine Müller who was leading the top list last year is among the list of competitiors, same as Julia Fischer and Shanice Craft. Last year Nadine threw her season best of 67.30m at the world class throwing event in Halle but unfortunately had to cancel the season afterwards. Even though this distance was thrown early in the season, at the end of the year Nadine still placed 4th in the world’s top list.
The two other throwers, Shanice and Julia, are performing better and better on the international stage. Shanice Craft won the bronze medal the the European Championships last year and Julia Fischer placed 5th. In recent years, the German throwers are at a very high, international competitive level and very close together. It will be very interesting to see how the battle will develop.
But the Cuban Denia Caballero Ponze (65.60m) and the Chinese champion TIan Jian (64.45m) want to present what they do have to offer and maybe even try to make it difficult for the Germans to win. Both were at the 2013 World Championships finals. There are four Chinese throwers in total who are able to throw further than 61m. They fit in well with the overall strong field of competitors in which at least twelve throwers have already thrown further than 60m.
