Throwholics did a follow up interview with the Matthew Outzen after his great performance from last weekend. He won the javelin competiton at the 2015 Sydney Track Classic as already mentioned in our latest article “Massive throws by Samuels and Outzen at Sydney Track Classic w/video“
What do you think is the reason behind your recent success/improvements?
My recent improvement has been thanks to my coach Lukas Cannan and the good people that i have around me at the moment and of course hard work.
Do you follow a technical model?
I think Steve Backley is a great technical model and getting some tips off him earlier this year was very helpful.
What is your big goal for 2015?
My goal for 2015 is to further improve my technique and win the Australian championship. I will take things as they come after that.
Are you planning to compete at the World Championships in Beijing, China?
Yes i am hoping to go to the world championships in Beijing.
Will you be competing outside of Australia?
At the moment I have not planned to compete outside of Australia but if something comes up I would like the experience.
Do you do any coaching?
No I don’t do any coaching I work full time as a plumber.
Is there a national committee or staff member that takes care of your throwing needs? Travel, implements, meet entry, medical care… etc?
To competitions my flights and 1 nights accommodation is payed for if i want to stay longer than 1 night i pay for it. Westfields sports gives me some funding towards my travels. If i need any implements i have to buy them. For competitions that requires a entry fee i pay. I currently have no medical funding.

My favourite javelin is the 85 composite nemeth.
