Desiree Schwarz (born 1992) is a German Javelin thrower with a personal best of 58.08m thrown in 2013. Her best achievement was the 5th place at the U23 European Championships in 2013.
Since April 2014 I was injured for the remaining season and therefore, I started already with the preparation for the new season. I changed some elements in training. I am now returned to Saarbruecken, Germany. I could not stay financially and family wise in Offenburg so the change of location was good for me. Now I feel much better and I can focus more on myself at training.
The focus of the training is prophylaxis. I have to overcome the physical problems in order to throw with new energy. Above all, my back gave me the last few years many problems. It is all about improving the athleticism and increase mobility. We have reduced the strength training to a minimum and increased the proportion of stabilization training, athletic training and specific training therapy.
The most important point in my training is the technique, especially the footwork has to be improved. The training is being determined primarily by my therapist team led by Stephen Hager and Mike Seewald, in order to respond quickly to any pain. The body’s health is more important that the performance because I need my body even after my career.
At the beginning of the winter training cardio and strength workouts were the main parts. From mid-October the training got expanded with stabilisation training, especially with a sling trainer and the slackline. As of December, I started to throw 1kg and 800g balls. At first I was just doing standing throws but now I throw again with a 5er rhythm and it feels very good. The reduced weight training improves my overall athleticism and body feeling.
The main exercises of our strength training are pull-overs, snatch, squats, neck press, lunches and incline bench press. Most of these exercises are performed on a soft ground and in relatively large reps. The movement should be maximised in dynamics.
For relaxation, I use a lot of time for therapy (Myoreflex, heat, electricity, massage), go swimming and spending time with the family.
The fist competitions are still not clear because I want to wait until after my technical development. A competition I have already denied, but this is in the shot put event. With a distance of 12.52m I have been very satisfied and even near my best. This is a good sign that the combination of training fits. My first javelin competition will probably not before April.
