What do you need to work on?
Last year I switched my technique a little bit and stopped using the fixed throw (Riedel/Harting etc.) and jump with a turn to stay in the ring. I have to refine this technique. In my preparation for the 2015 season I’m going to miss six weeks due to my basic army training. Overall I do have to work on my ground work and my general technique.
Where will you be living this winter?
I spend most of my time in my training home Magdeburgy, Germany. Among other things, we will be performing again 3 training camps in Germany and abroad. In early February, we are 2 weeks at National Training Centre in Kienbaum, Germany. In March, it then goes to Portugal for 2 weeks and in April we are 2 weeks on Cyprus. We use all of that to have the best preparation for the upcoming season.
Who are you training with?
My training partner is Martin Wierig, currently the second best German discus thrower. I do have the optimal training partner with Martin.
Are you throwing in the off-season in practice?
Usually we try to throw as often as possible outside in order to throw for distance. If the weather is not as good as we would like it to be we switch to throw indoors.
What weight lifting exercises will you do?
During the winter training we are focussing on strength training. Hence, a lot of reps for the different exercises. The main exercises are squats, bench press, clean and snatch. During the summer we are focussing more on speed while lifting.
Do you see your Coach much? Who is your Coach?
My coach is Armin Lemme. I do see my coach every training session and he observes it with the utmost care. He takes the time to study and analyse the strength and technique.
Are you going to try anything new this off-Season? If so, what?
Yes, we started to make use of a special weightlifting coach who will help us to be even more precise for our weight training sessions.
What will you do to relax?
After the 2014 Season I’ve visited my sister in Austing, Texas for a couple of days. After that I went down to Miamia for 12 days and just relaxed. At the time I’m not on holiday I do relax with a casual game on my Playstation.
When do you plan to compete again?
My first competition will be at the beginning of February in Halle, Germany. My official season opener will be at the Werfercup in Wiesbaden, Germany.
