What do you need to work on, improve?
While staying within the parameters of good fundamentals, I am always working to find the most efficient technique for me. Things are feeling good as I’m working with continuing the push through what I now call the “push point”.
Where will you be living this winter?
I’ll be in Kamloops, British Columbia. A little over 3 hours NE of Vancouver. 5 from Seattle.
Who are you training with?
We’ve got a smaller group now, but motivated. I wish Canada had the population where we could have a lot of throwers of all ages.
Are you throwing in the off-season in practice?
Besides my 2-3 week break every year, I’m always throwing. To get better at your event, do the event.
What weight lifting exercises will you do?
I do all the standard Olympic lifts, with a lot of special strength exercises. I don’t lift very heavy, but my overall tonnage in this program is more than anywhere I’ve been.
Who is your coach?
My coach is Dr. Anatoliy Bondarchuk.
Do you see your coach much?
I see him everyday.
Are you going to try anything new this off-season? If so, what?
Yes, actually. Near the end of the 2014 season we experimented with cutting back my training. It appears to be exactly what I’ve needed. My body just feels better now. Seems maybe I’ve probably been overtraining for a while.
What will you do to relax? Vacation planned?
I relax with my wife Crystal, (former Canadian record holder, wHammer), and daughter Brooklyn. Spending time with them is the perfect recharge before hitting the ring and going back to work. No vacation per se, but we’ve got quite a large family gathering planned this holiday season in Calgary.
When do you plan to compete again?
If allowed, I’m hoping to open at Texas Relays. I want to spend my last 3 or so seasons competing at famous venues I’ve never been to.
