What do you need to work on, improve?
Im going to work on my stability. I was able to produce big distances in training and with lighter and heavier hammers that all were pointing to a better season best than 74,62m. On top I’d like to improve my regeneration. Physio therapy and massages are not easy to get in Frankfurt and I want to make sure I set up a better system for myself around training times as well.
Where will you be living this winter?
Frankfurt, Kienbaum (Berlin), Stellenbosch, Chula Vista, CA
I know warm weather always improves my performances in both lifting and throwing so I am going to take advantage of it and try to spent most of the winter in warmer conditions than the average German winter.
Who are you training with?
Mostly myself and my Leverkusen squad. My coach Helge Zöllkau knows that I am working according to his plans even if we dont see each other. We have chats and texts to give each other updates and feedback about training performances, health and fatigue levels and were able to set up a good system in the last two years.
Are you throwing in the off-season in practice?
Yes, absolutely. Its time now for heavy hammers to built up special strength and a lot of technical drills with different hammers to wirk on little technical errors.
What weight lifting exercises will you do?
Im keeping the exercises I normally do. Snatch, clean, squats and pulls are my main go-tos. As side exercises I’m doing lunges, step-ups and bench pull-ups to strengthen my back.
Do you see your coach much? Who is your coach?
My coach is Helge Zöllkau. I drive up to Leverkusen whenever theres peak times in throwing but mainly I work in Frankfurt by myself. I have a good set up there and all the time and space I need.
Are you going to try anything new this off-season? If so, what?
No, nothing new. Last year I did a month long cleansing cycle and stuck to a vegan diet. Unfortunately this made me loose some Kilos more than I would have expected. I was weighing under 70kg and had a body fat percentage of 9%. What sounds very good at first, is not very positive for my event. It made me struggle with the heavy hammers and made me vulnerable to little injuries too. So this year Im keeping my diet fresh and organic but not vegan.
What will you do to relax? Vacation planned?
I went on a 2 week holiday in Italy and Ireland with my boyfriend at the end of September- early October. It was good and absolutely needed after we finished our seasons in Thum and Berlin.
When do you plan to compete again?
Right now it looks like my first competition will be the European Winter Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal again.
