Athletics Auckland Meeting, Douglas Track and Field, Waitakere –
22 November 2014
Jacko Gill opened his season with a useful 19,31m (63′ 4¼”) on Saturday.
In cold and wet conditions Gill knocked out a series of 19,25m, 18,59m, NT, NT, 19,01m, 19,31m. It was the first meet for the former world youth and twice world junior champion since the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July.
“I’m really happy for this time of the year, I’m changing a few things with my technique and it held up okay today so I’m looking at more of what I’m doing in the circle than the outcome,” said Gill.
As usual, the thick-skinned Kiwi was not bothered by the conditions . “I’ve got to deal with that sort of stuff, it’s good to have the competitions where things don’t go in your favour. Training has been going really good at the moment, training hard and I feel like I’m coming along quite nicely.”
After the Commonwealth Games Gill went into 2015 mode looking forward to Beijing. “I had a week training camp in Sweden and it was quite good to get up there and train.”… and we suppose a visit with his friends.
