Tia Ra’shone Brooks (2 August 1990) is an American shot putter. In 2011, she placed second in the shot put at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. In 2012, she won both events before competing at the US Olympic Trials. At the Trials, she placed third in the shot put and qualified to represent the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She placed 19th at the Olympics. Also in 2012, she was a Bowerman Award semifinalist.
She is the American collegiate record holder indoors with her personal record of 19.22 m (63′ 01⁄2″).
What do you need to work on, improve?
After making some both minute and complex technical changes, this year will be dedicated to ingraining the changes and becoming both comfortable and consistent with the new movements. I will also focus on gaining more strength by pushing the weights.
Where will you be living this winter?
I will be training and loving at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.
Who are you training with?
I am training with Eric Wersky, Joe Kovacs, Richard Garret, Whitney Ashley and Kristen Smith; all coached by Art Venagas.
Are you throwing in the off-season in practice?
I am throwing during the off-season practices but really am focusing on technique.
What weight lifting exercises will you do?
I will do all of the Olympic lifts along with some supplemental lifts.
Are you going to try anything new this off-season? If so, what?
Due to my back issues I will be pushing it more in the weight room by removing blocks and adding lifts I have not done before.
What will you do to relax? Vacation planned?
I took a couple of trips before starting the pre season and don’t plan on taking anymore trips other than holidays.
When do you plan to compete again?
I’m not sure when my next competition will be, have to consult with both my coach and agent to see what will be the best approach on a World Championship year.
