Former javelin world champion Matthias de Zordo is currently on his way back competing. De Zordo placed second at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona, Spain and won the gold medal one year later at the world championships in Daegu, South Korea. His personal best of 88,36m still stands since September 2011.
For Matthias de Zordo the way back to compete has been longer than expected. After his Achilles tendon injury from May 2013 Matthias thought he would be back way ealier. Also this summer de Zordo did not compete in any competition.
Matthias de Zordo:
The leg muscles have been reduced due to the injury. Thus I could not throw as good as I used to. I had to rebuild my muscles from scratch.
“My coach Ralf Wollbrück and I are very confident that I will, if everything continues to go well, be back in May 2015” looks, Matthias de Zordo ahead. “The 2015 World Championships would already be a great achievement but my ultimate goal is the successful participation in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janero, Brazil.”
