Everyone knows that Robert Harting, who is currently the Olympic, World and European Champion, always makes sure one understands his opinion. He does not keep anything to himself and asks others to do the same. In the past he openly “attacked” officials in order to underline his statements. As a follower of the Track & Field one can understand Harting’s latest request to cancel his nomination for the IAAF World Athlete 2014.
I ask the IAAF to cancel my nominaion for the IAAF World Athlete of the year. I do like to nomination as such but I cannot stand the fact that I am on the same list with former doping offenders to choose from. And for me that is the reason for my waiver.
“Insult to my fans”
On the shortlist for the IAAF World Athlete nomination is also U.S. sprinter Justin Gatlin, who was suspended from 2006 to 2010 for doping. “I do not like it and see it as a provocation to me and especially for my fans”. The IAAF should “take honesty in their evaluation scheme” also.
If the IAAF does not mean to differ these circumstances, they should not do it at all. I request officially to cancel my nomination!
The IAAF had nominated alongside Harting and Gatlin, among other pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie (France), high jumper Moataz Essa Barshim (Qatar) and marathon world record holder Dennis Kimetto (Kenya). The sprint star Usain Bolt is not on the list of nominees due to the fact that he had a foot injury which hold him back to compete. Bolt had won the election in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
