Denise Hinrichs is struggling with her shot put career the past four years. Worries about her knee injuries have slowed her down again and again. But giving up is not an option. For the upcoming indoor season Denise Hinrichs even thinks about a start at the European Indoor Championships.
Silver at the European Indoor Championships, U23 European Champion, Olympic and World Championships participant. Denise Hinrichs increased her personal best up to 19,63m indoors and 19,47m outdoors in 2009. Two years later a phase of injuries has started with the first torn cruciate ligament.
Since then, it’s always the knee which causes problems. The cruciate ligament has been torned a second time. The comeback after that has been prevented by a cartilage damage. Again she had surgery instead of throwing the ball. In the meantime, Denise Hinrichs was helping out her sport club with the press work. But Denise never lost sight of her next comeback.
During the next indoor season the shot put should “fly” again.
I will do my best to show already a good performance in the upcoming indoor season. I’m glad that I again get support from my sports club TV Wattenscheid to do my sport professionally. Of course I also have to thank the DLV (German athletic federation) and the federal police.
European Indoor Championships in mind
Five weeks ago, the three-time German Champion Denise Hinrichs started with her training again.
During excessive stress I feel little aches and pain, but it works quite well. I can also do squats again. During my training schedule the first elements of shot putting are coming back but I did not the full turn yet.
The goal is it to wear the national clothes again. “I’m doing this in order to be present internationally,” says Hinrichs clearly the objectives for 2015.
Staying fit is my overall priority. In my mind I do have the upcoming European Indoor Championships and possibly also the winter throwing challenge could be an issue. For the summer we will have to see how much I’m going to progress.
The aim is again to wear the national jersey. “It makes it so, in order to be internationally here,” says Hinrichs clearly the objectives for 2015: “Staying fit – having first time a top priority for the winter I have the European Indoor Championships in the head, also the winter Throw Challenge.. could be an issue. And in the summer we will have to see what it can see. ”
