Shot put World and European Champion David Storl has been successfully operated on his left knee. “The surgey went great. Today I’m really relaxed. We have been going back home to Chemnitz,” said the 24-year-old the new agency dpa.
The surgery on the patellar tendon lasted about an hour. Inflamed tissue has been removed. “All right,” said Storl, “the knee is still a bit swollen, but I have no pain”.
Five days before the long-planned operation of the shot put start, Storl was still shining at the Continental Cup in Marrakech (Morocco) with 21.55m.
Training at the earliest in four weeks
David Storl had to wait a couple of days until the wound heald and the threads are outgrown. In order to stabilize the knee and the back muscles Storl will do his rehabilitation with the support of the flow channel in Berlin-Hohenschonhausen. “At the earliest in four weeks, ” he could start training again.
As fast as for some professional soccer players the comeback of David Storl will not be expected. “My doctor said he operated on a soccer player of Schalke 04 once and he could be back in training three weeks after the surgery”.
