The well known ISTAF meeting in Berlin is scheduled for the 31st of August this year. Unfortunately, the women’s javelin is not part of the current meeting program. Nevertheless, the meeting organiser promised to get all German medal winners to compete at the ISTAF 2014. Linda Stahl, who placed third at the European Championships in Zurich last Thursday, would like to challenge the organiser’s word. Her goal is it to include the women’s javelin in the ISTAF program.
The women’s javelin was not included in the program of the 2014 ISTAF event on 31st of August because the World Champion Christina Obergföll is having a baby and could not compete. In addition, the schedule should be limited to a few events only.
I tried my best at the European Championships to include the women’s javelin event in the ISTAF meeting.
They said they want to present all German athletes who won a medal at the European Championships at the ISTAF. Now I’ve won the bronze medal and I would like to challenge the organiser’s word on that. In addition, Linda would be in Berlin anyway because she has an invitation to the Berlin Philhamonic.
Linda Stahl still number one in the world
Above all, Linda Stahl is still the world leader in the women’s javelin event with a massive throw of 67,32m. Stahl sure hopes that this will not change until the end of the season. However Linda thinks that Barbora Spotakova would be able to throw a world leading mark. Especially at the two remaining Diamond League meetings Spotakova could go for the world leading throw. Maybe even at the ISTAF in Berlin, if the organisers change their mind and include the women’s javelin event.
