Todays Josef Odložil Memorial competition produced also some good throwing results. Petr Freydrych underlined his ambition for medalling at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich, Switzerland later this year. He won the competition with a seasonal best of 85,07m (279′ 1″). After her parental leave it seems that Barbora Špotáková is right on track to grab a medal in Zurich as well. She threw 64,08m (210′ 2″) which means that she is still leading the European top list with her throw from Rome.
The 26-year-old Frydrych underlined is ambitions to grab a medal in Zurich. With all 5 valid throws being over 80m he showed an incredible performance. The other Czech javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch placed second also with a new seasonal best of 82,48m (270′ 7″). Lukas Grzeszczuk from Poland was the third on the podium with 81,18m (266′ 4″).
After winning the Diamond League meeting in Rome, Barbora Spotakova showed once again that she is back on track after her parental leave. All valid throws were above 62m with a winning throw of 64,08m (210′ 2″). The Ukrainian Hanna Hatsko-Fedusova placed second with 62,03m (203′ 6″) and Adis Hjalmsdottir from Island threw a season best to became third on the podiun.
The Lithuanian discus thrower Andrius Gudzius threw 62,42m (204′ 9″) to win the event. It was a very close fight for the second spot. Both Jorge Fernandez and Apostolo Parellis threw 62,20m (204′). Since Fernandez threw twice over 62m he placed second and Parellis third.
The men’s shot put event was also a close fight for the 1st spot on the podium. The Czech Ladislav Prasil won (20,52m (67′ 3″)) being only 2cm ahead of the Russian Aleksandr Lesnoy (20,50m (67′ 3″)). TOmas Stanek also from Czech became third with 20,31m (66′ 7″).
Aksana Menkova’s season best of 67,54m (221′ 7″) was not enough to win the women’s hammer event. The Ukrainian Iryna Novozhylova won with her second attempt of 70,29m (230′ 7″). Tereza Kralova from Czech placed third with 66,67m (218′ 8″).
