Today Shanice Craft threw 64,16m and won the U23 discus competition at the European Cup Winter Throwing. Yesterday she competed already in the shot put and placed second with a 17,16m (56′ 3″). With the 64,16m (210′ 5″) she was a class by herself. She would have won the competition with every single throw. She started with 53,77m and continued to improve during every round. Currently Shanice is ranked 4th in the world’s top list.
Her serie: 53,77m, 60,28m, 58,83m, 62,52m, 64,16m, 62,59m.
The qualification standards for the upcoming European Championships in Zurich are 61m which she fulfilled today already. Shanice also added 1,24m to her previous personal best, which underlines her great shape she is in right now. Since it is quite early in the season and there is probably a lot more to write about her in the future.
The German Athletic Federation will have to make a tough call in the summer of who to send to the European Championships. Every country is only allowed to send three throwers. “Unfortunately” (not really unfortunately :D) Germany has at least four throwers who are capeable of throwing the qualification standard of 61m.
Ranked by their personal bests:
Nadine Müller: 68.89m (226′ 0″)
Julia Fischer: 66.04m (216′ 8″)
Anna Rüh: 64,33m (211′ 0″)
Shanice Craft: 64,16m (210′ 5″)
