The French discus thrower Melina Robert Michon competed at the nationals and underlined her good performance. She won the competition with impressive 64,12m (210′ 4″). On 2nd of February Michon was not really satisfied with 59,97m (196′ 9″) throw and wanted to show that she is again contender for a medal this summer. The Vice World Champion Michon threw a big one with the 64,12m (210′ 4″), especially at this time of the season. With her winning throw she also cleared the qualification standard of 61m (200′ 1″) for the upcoming European Championships ins Zurich, Switzerland (12th -17th of August).
The 64,12m (210′ 4″) was the 5th best performance ever of Michon. Her current personal best is set to 66,28m (217′ 5″) which is also the French National Record and provided her with the silver medal at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
Melina Robert Michon:
“It’s the first time ever that I throw this far at this time of the season. This also confirms the good feeling I have since my recovery.”
Last summer at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Michon grabbed a medal for the first time in her career at major championships. Even though she is already 34 years old she still does not think to retire.
“At my first competition this year I did not feel very good and was not very pleased with the result. But now I know that I’m in a good shape maybe almost as good as I used to be back in Moscow. My serie of throws was very constant with four throws above 62m (203′ 4″). And technically, not everything was perfect. So there is still room for improvement until the summer European Championships.”
At the European Cup in Leiria, Portugal Michon will face Sandra Perkovic for the first of the year and as well all know she is an beast mode right now. She throw a massive 70m (229′ 7″) already and it doesn’t seem like it that anyone can keep up with her at the moment.
“I’ll have one more week to build up some strenght, correct some technical aspects and then getting ready to face Sandra.”
