While Kovacs was blasting firework in Boston another American was putting on his own light show near the Mexican border. Ryan Crouser smashed his personal best and spin the 7.26kg ball out to 21,23m (69′ 8″). He also had a 5th round 21,09m (69′ 2″).
He dropped this post on Facebook:
New PR this afternoon in New Mexico! 21.23m (69’8″) new UT school record and number 3 in the world!
Ironically, Throwholics has to mention the Texas transplant is not quite 3rd in the world. But to be fair, Crouser didn’t know that Joe Kovacs had improved dusted the chalk on the 70′ that same day. Veteran Ryan Whiting still has the world lead 21,37m (70′ 1″), followed by Joe Kovac’s 21,35m (70′) and David Storl’s 21,33m (70′).
Who will make the team to go to the World Championships?
USA has a luxuary problem since they always have tons (literally) of world class shot putters.
