Two titans of our sport will ring-in the month of purification at the world class indoor meet in Karlsruhe, Germany. The two-time Olympic Champion meets the two-time World Champion – or better: Thomasz Majewski vs. David Storl. Some time ago David Storl announced already that he will compete at the world class indoor meeting and just today the Polish shot putter Tomasz Majewski announced also that he will be competing. It will be a repeat of the premiere indoor competition of 2012, where Majewski took the win from Storl–21,27m (69’9″) to 21,03m (68’11”).
Again and again the paths of these two gliders have crossed during major international events in recent years…. duels between the 32-year-old giant (2.04 meters) from Nasielsk and his 23-year-old challenger from Germany. In the last two outdoor World Championships in Daegu (2011) and Moscow (2013) had each Storl the lead. Majeweski remained without a medal each. Unlike at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where the pole was in top form at the minute and took his second Olympic gold medal after the Games of Beijing. With 21.89m (71’9″) Majweski heaved the ball 3′ further than Storl and showed once again what a mental strength he has. He is only the 3rd shot putter in the history to have two gold medals hanging in the pantry.
Majewski also won gold at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona as Storl went home emply handed in 4th in his 1st major international competition. Two years later, at Istanbul’s World Indoor Championships Majewski had to settle for bronze behind Storl‘s silver. In the upcoming World Indoor Championships (7–9 March 2014) will Majewski, who has a personal indoor best of 21.72m (71’3″), of course, make it to the top of the podium, especially since this World Championships will be in front of his countrymen in Sopot, Poland? The INDOOR MEETING in Karlsruhe is therefore, giving us a glimpse into the podium at the World Championships. Here’s hoping Hoffa, Whiting or Armstrong are buying a ticket to Frankfurt right now.
