Gerd Kanter and Piotr Malachowski knocked heads in Kohila today. The ERGO Athletics Final was expected to be a class-act from discus throwers–and these neighbors did not disappoint.
Kanter, winner of nine major medals and one of the most successful discus throwers on planet, was really firing atmosphere. His 67.59m (221′ 9″) in Kohila puts him to 5th on the 2013 world list. A couple of days ago he took overall Diamond League victory in Zürich and built on that success in Kohila. It will be interesting to where Track & Field News ranks him and how he will carry this momentum into 2014.
Piotr Malachowski, world leader this year with a spectacular 71.84m (235′ 8″), threw 65.20m (213′ 11″) that left him a distant 2nd place. Martin Kupper (Estonia) gave to Pole a spook with his useful 64.91m (212′ 11″).
