Today at the New York Diamond League meeting Sandra Perkovic threw 68,48m (224′ 8″), which is not only a new world lead but also the meeting record. The previous meeting record was 63,97m held by Stephanie Brown-Trafton from May 2009.
Sandra Perkovic, of Croatia, had won the discus at the opening Diamond League meeting in Doha and she secured another victory in style.
In the fifth round, she increased the lead she had from her opening throw of 64m (209′ 11″) when she broke the meeting record with 68.48m (224′ 8″), the best in the world this year. Sandra was already leading the world with her 68,23m (223′ 10″) from the Doha Diamond League meeting on 10th of May.
It gave the Olympic and European champion a triumph where she was never troubled as American Gia Lewis-Smallwood was second with 61.86m (202′ 11″) and Melina Robert-Michon, of France, was third with 61.45m (201′ 7″).
