Today at the New York Diamond League meeting Ryan Whiting won the men’s shot put competition with 21,27m (69′ 9″). Reese Hoffa became second with his last round throw of 20,69m (67′ 10″) and Cory Martin with a season best of 20.60m (67′ 7″) placed third.

The strong men’s shot put field included Olympic Champion Tomasz Majewski, indoor World Champion Ryan Whiting and many more of the best shot putters in the world. Ryan Whiting who already won the first Diamond League meeting in Doha (Qatar) with a massive world leading throw and meeting record of 22,28m (73′ 1″) won once again.

It seems that Ryan is in a very good shape right now. On 4th of May he produced his previous world leading throw of 21,74m (71′ 3″) in Kingston, improved on 10th of May in Doha with his new meeting record of 22,28m (73′ 1″). And now at his second Diamond League meeting he won, despite the bad weather conditions, with a toss over 21m. His fourth attempt was measure 21,27m (69′ 9″) which secured him another four points.

Ryan Whiting opened with 20,32m (66′ 8″), produced two fouls and then finally he made his toss over 21m (68′ 10″), 21,27m (69′ 9″) to be exact. The fifth attempt was a foul again and his last round “only” 20,39m (66′ 10″).

It seems that Reese Hoffa struggled at bit with the weather conditions. His first four throws were all less than 20m and then during the fifth round he finally hit the 20m mark. This throw was measure 20,30m (66′ 7″) which would not have been enough for the podium. His last attempt of 20,69m secured him the second place and added two points to his account.

Cory Martin also tossed his best throw during the final round. He produced a new season best of 20,60m (67′ 7″) and saved one point in the diamond race.
