Early this morning in the Belem Grand Prix, Rocio Comba of Argentina broke her own National Record, threw A Standard for the 1st time in her career, and climbed to 12th place in the IAAF Rankings with her 5th round throw of 62.77m (205’ 8″).
Andressa Oliveira de Morals the Brasilian National Record Holder as well as the South American Record Holder 64.21m (210’ 6″) placed second with a throw of 60.46m (198’3). The Brazilian very briefly led the competition having passed Comba in the 5th round, but the Argentine answered right back in the following throw taking back the lead.
Even though the competition included girls from around the world, the South American girls closed out the podium, with Fernanda Raquel Borges Martins of Brazil placing third with a throw of 59m even (193’5). Irina Rodrigues of Portugal placed fourth 57.33m (188’) , Karen Gallardo of Chile was fifth 56.70m (185’9ft) and Jade Nicholls of Great Britain was sixth 55.79m (182′ 9).
