The incredible competition in Wiesbaden, Germany produced some really good results. Unfortunately, the men’s discus competition could not keep up the expectations one would have had after the women competitions. Robert Harting opens his season with 68,31m (224′ 1″) and won the competition against Martin Wierig 66,50m (218′ 2″).
Martin Wierig was all the way through the competition leading until the 5th round throw of Robert. Robert was only able two produce two legit throws, the rest were all fouls. And only the 5th round throw let him win the competition. His second best one of 66,30m (217′ 6″) would not have been enough to win. Martin Wierig started pretty good with 65,12m (213′ 7″) and improved in the second round to 66,45m (218′). Another 66,05m (216′ 8″) followed. He fouled the 4th and 5th attempt and let Robert take over the lead. His final throw was 66,50m (218′ 2″).
Markus Münch was lucky that he achieved the 64,44m (211′ 5″) during the 3rd round, all his other throws would have not be enough to make the podium. Christoph Harting placed 4th with 63,79m (209′ 3″) and a new personal best. Daniel Jasinki became 5th with 63,26m (207′ 6″).
