Virgilijus Alekna, who said he is going to retire after last years Olympic Games in London, did not retire! Last Wednesday Virgilijus threw 63.23m (207′ 5″) in Vilnius. Now we know for sure that he is not retired and still wants to make it back to the top of the world. Therefore, the 41-year-old double Olympic Champion and World Champion’s retirement is not on the table anymore. Eligijus Rusk became second with 55.90m (183′ 4″) during the competition.
Domanta Poska won the U18 discus throw event with outstanding 66.27m (217′ 5″) which positioned him 2nd in the world. Only Matthew Denny, who threw 67.28m (220′ 8″) earlier this year, has thrown further in 2013. Therfore, Domanta Poska is definitely one of the hot candidates for a medal at the U18 World Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine. Not only that this huge throw placed him 2nd in the world but also he broke the national record of Andrew Goode, who threw 66.23m (217′ 3″) with the 1.5kg (3.3lbs) implement.
