The former European Champion and threefold World Champion Ivan Tsikhan´s doping test turned out positive. It was 8 years ago when Tsikhan won bronze at the Olympic Games held in Athens 2004. Back then his test was negative.
Now, 8 years later his sample was retested and found positive. Still, it´s not the first time Tsikhan has been accused of using illegal substances.
Both Tsikhan and silver medalist and fellow Belarusian Vadim Devyatovskiy tested positive for abnormal levels of testosterone after the hammer throw finals on August 12, 2008. Both were stripped of their medals by the International Olympic Committee. Both men have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. If the Court rejected their appeal, Tsikhan would have served a two-year suspension and been banned from the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. However, In June 2010 the CAS ruled in his favor and due to discrepancies in drug testing he was reawarded his bronze medal.
Tsikhan´s PB stands on 86.73m since 2005. Positive test given in 2004 could mean that all his results and achievements since 2004 will be erased.
