Silver medalist of the Olympic Games, Mariya Abakumova won the women´s javelin Final with a new lifetime best and of 71.99m.
It is also the new record of the World Championships. Competition took a sensational U-turn after the second round when Abakumova first launched 71.25m. Then the world record holder Barbora Sportakova of Czech Republic had more tougher mission on his shoulders. She started to seek the perfect throw and finally took over the lead with her fifth round throw of 71.58m.
Abakumova reacted with 71.99m, a new record of the World Championships. In her final throw Sportakova kept it without an answer (66.80).
Competition behind the Big Two got less attention. Sunette Viljoen, of South-Africa, threw a new Area Record 68.38m. Christina Obergföll (GER) was fourth with 65.24m.
