Lithuanian discus legend Virgilijus Alekna won the Samsung Diamond League meet held today in London. The 2 meters tall giant with numerous records and titles threw 66.71m in his fourth attempt which placed him first ahead of the world leader(69.50m) Zoltan Kovago (HUN) who was struggling in opening rounds and barely got three more attempts. Then Kovago launched 66.29m in his final attempt and rised to a 2nd place.
Third place was preoccupied by Ehsan Hadadi (IRI) who managed to throw 64.76m. Hadadi is the Asian record holder with 69.32m achieved in Tallinn 2008.
He was one of the favorites for the Olympic Gold medal but gor injured and skept the season 2009. In 2010 he made a comeback with over a 67m throw, grabbed the Asian Championships title and has set his target to Olympic Games 2012 which will be held in London.
The reigning Olympic Champion, representing Estonia- Gerd Kanter, was just fourth with 64.56m
