The double javelin Olympic Champion Andreas Thorkildsen (NOR ) produced 88.19m at the Diamond League meet held in Lausanne. His result is placed second in the world top list this year while the leader is Vadims VasiÄ¼evskis (LAT ) with 88.22m.
His result shows his form is improving and after a poor enter to the season he is now the candidate for the brightest award in Daegu. Thorkildsen will also defend his title in Daegu as he is the reigning World Champion since Berlin 2009.
Thorkildsen got his first major title in 2004 when he grabbed Gold in Athens by defeating Vadims VasiÄ¼evskis. In 2006 he became the European Champion and successfully defended his title in 2010 in Barcelona. His first World Championships title came in Berlin 2009 with a throw of 89.59m. In 2007 he was second while Finnish Tero Pitkamäki won.
Thorkildsen´s lifetime best is 91.59m thrown in 2006. He has broke the 90m barrier 7 times. In 2001 he threw the World Junior Record with 83.87m which stood until this year when Latvia´s Zigismunds Sirmais broke it with 84.69m.
