Brittish record holder Lawrence Okoye became the European U23 Champion in Ostrava. The overall level turned to be much lower than expected as the winning result was 60.70m. The competition was disturbed by a strong wind.
Silver medal was taken by the junior world record holder Mykyta Nesterenko (UKR) with 59.67m. His lifetime best stands since 2008 when he heaved the discus to 65.31m and broke several youth world records with a single throw.
Generally the competition was pretty tense. Norway´s Fredrik Amundgard was the bronze medal winner, as well as the biggest thrower on the field frize winner with a height of 2.10m and weighing more than 140 kg. His furthest throw spilled to 59.42m which is also his new season´s best.
Mainly known as a shot putter, Marin Premeru of Croatia was able to get close in his last attempt – 58.93m. Robert Harting´s younger “bruder” Christoph Harting was fifth with 58.65m.
