Virgilijus Alekna of Lithuania, the double Olympic and World champion with a lifetime best of 73.88m, which puts him into the second place in the world´s all-time list, won at the Samsung Diamond League competition held in Stockholm under the name of DN Galan 2011.
Remarkable is that all the best discus throwers, except the reigning World champion Robert Harting of Germany, were competing probably in a good shape, but nobody throw further than Alekna´s performance which heaved the discus to 65.05m. Is Alekna back in the victory row?
Although, Polish reigning European champion Piotr Malachowski got really close with 64.96m. He was followed by the Spanish champion Yennifer Frank Casanas who threw 63.42m and Neatherland´s Erik Cadée, “the most creative discus thrower in the world” with 63.21m.
The reigning Olympic champion Gerd Kanter threw his worst result in 5 years with 62.98m. He hasn´t thrown that short since 2006 when he finished with 62.55m at the European Winter Throwing Cup on March 18.
