Latvia´s Olympic silver medallist Vadims Vasiļevskis who´s lifetime best is 90.73 m since 2007, took over the world leading in Tartu, at the BIGBANK Kuldliiga meet. His throw of 88.22 m is his best effort since 2009 when he threw 90.71 m.
His previous seasons best was 82.65 m from the Samsung Diamond League in Doha. 88.22 m is also his 6th best throw of all-time. The previous seasons best was shared between Sergey Makarov (RUS) and Tero Pitkamäki (FIN) with a distance of 85.33 m.
“I didn´t expect such throw, I thought I could throw 85-86 m. But of course 88 m is my result because my lifetime best is ,however, over 90 m. I am a bit surprised but I know I can throw that far. This year I am good – preparation and everything else is better. Recently I had an infection in my leg but it´s getting better now and that´s why I threw far.”
He is now the main favorite to win the brightest award in Daegu, at the World Championships in August.
The second place went to Dmitri Tarabin of Russia. His throw of 82.61 m is also his new lifetime best. The previous was 81.30 m since April 22. The junior world record holder Zigismunds Sirmais was 3rd with a decent 80.59 m.
