Estonia´s discus giant Märt Israel (SB/PB 66.98 m) gave an interview to the Vikerraadio which is a reputable Estonian radio channel.
Israel said he had all the facilities in his childhood to do sports. Coached by Rein Ahun he attended in many sports mainly in track and field but ballgames as well.
“When I moved to Tallinn I started to train together with Gerd Kanter, and since then I also started to realize what it takes to be a professional athlete,” he said and added that it has taken a lot time and effort to be a professional athlete and in past 2 years he has felt he acts like a professional.
“Sport is a routine- if you are not willing to endure then you don´t belong at the top,” he affirmed. “In sports I can see what are my abilities.”
Märt Israel also said his stongest side is a good flexibility – back when he was a young boy he didn´t have any problems to do splits. Recently he attended in a gene test and it showed he has mainly the fast muscle fibers and a good speed properties as well.
Israel thinks his weakest sides include his technique that is hard to get used with. “My technical searches have taken a long time, last year I changed my throwing technique,” he said
His goals for this year is to finish in top 8 in the World Championships in Daegu.
